Hand-drawn title card about website prices

A website's price has two parts: a one-time design and build cost, then monthly or annual hosting, domain and maintenance costs. A clear, functional website for a small business can cost a few hundred euros. More pages, customisation, language versions and special features such as ecommerce increase the price. This guide explains the components, running costs and how to calculate the actual total over several years.

At a glance

  • The price has two parts: a one-time build cost and running costs such as hosting, domain and maintenance.
  • Scope matters most: a single-page presentation is the least expensive; multi-page business websites cost more, while ecommerce and system integrations are in a different price category.
  • A domain is a small cost: Traficom charges registrars €12 per year for a .fi domain, and the registrar adds its service fee.
  • Calculate the total: compare quotes by their three-year total cost rather than just the starting price.
  • Our prices Landing Page costs €300 and Business Website €650 as total prices. Hosting and domain cost €9.90 per month, and hosting and maintenance €30 per month.

What makes up a website's price?

A website quote usually includes four components. Each affects the upfront and monthly cost.

Design

Design determines what the website says, in which order and how it looks. It covers structure, layout, colours, fonts and how visitors are guided towards contact or purchase. More pages and custom solutions require more design work.

Development

Development means building the pages: arranging text and images, forms, maps, social links and making everything work on phones and computers. Responsive design is now a basic requirement. Most visitors use mobile devices, so pages must adapt to every screen.

Content

Content is the most easily overlooked part of comparing quotes. Will you supply text and images, or will the developer create them? Ready content keeps the project quick and affordable. Writing from scratch or sourcing images adds to the price.

Ongoing services

Published websites need hosting, a domain such as omayritys.fi, and technical care: updates, backups and help with changes. These are usually billed monthly or annually.

Scope determines four price categories

Market prices range from a few hundred to several thousand euros. The variation is usually explained by scope. The table helps you identify where your needs fit.

Website type Who it suits Typical contents What affects the price
Single-page presentation (landing page) Self-employed entrepreneur, individual service or event, private individual Introduction, services, contact details and form on one scrolling page Custom design and content volume
Small business website A small business presenting several services Home, service pages, about and contact Page count, writing and images
Large business website Growing business with several sectors or locations Dozens of pages, blog, language versions and booking Languages, integrations and content management
Online store or custom system A business selling products online Product catalogue, payments, deliveries and stock connections Product count, payment and logistics integrations

Most small businesses can start with one of the first two options. Customers should immediately find what you do, where you operate and how to contact you. The website can expand as your business grows.

What increases the price most?

  • Page count: each new page adds design, content and checks.
  • Language versions: a Swedish or English version adds development and translation work.
  • Special features: booking, member areas, complex forms or online payments.
  • A completely unique design: designing every element from scratch takes more hours.
  • Content creation: writing, photography and image editing.

Running costs: domain, hosting and maintenance

After the total price, keeping the website online costs money each month. These costs are small, but worth understanding in advance.

Domain name

A .fi domain is a natural choice for a Finnish business. Domains are registered through registrars, and Traficom charges the registrar €12 per year for registration and renewal. The customer pays more because the registrar prices its service separately.

The same guide explains the registrar's legal duty to advise customers on domain format, content and lawfulness. If you are unsure whether a name is suitable, for example because of another business name or trademark, ask before registering.

Hosting

Hosting is server space for your website. Hosting a small business website is an affordable monthly expense. Buying it with your domain often means fewer invoices and accounts to manage.

Maintenance

Maintenance helps keep your website working in the future. It typically covers technical updates, backups, security and small content changes such as opening hours or prices. If you prefer not to spend time on technology, monthly maintenance is usually the easiest way to keep the website in order.

Maintenance

Three ways to get a website

There are three approaches, suited to different situations. Compare what each requires from you below.

Approach What you pay What it requires from you Suitable when
Build it yourself with a website builder or CMS Monthly fees, themes and plugins Time, technical learning and responsibility for maintenance You want to learn and have time
Update an existing website The agreed update fee and current service costs Platform details, wishes and necessary access You want to update an existing website and keep your hosting
Custom website as a service Total price and running costs Initial information and feedback You want a website built for your particular needs

Doing it yourself takes time: design, mobile checks and updates become your responsibility. A custom website or professional updates to an existing one free up your time for other work.

Is WordPress paid software?

This is a common question. WordPress itself is open source, with no software licence fee. Other costs remain:

  • Hosting and domain: WordPress needs a server and an address like any website.
  • Themes: paid themes are common when free designs are insufficient.
  • Plugins: forms, backups, SEO and security often require paid plugins or licences.
  • Updates and maintenance: the system, theme and plugins need regular updates, taking your time or a paid maintenance service.

With WordPress, "free" means the software, not a finished website. Compare the full package: who handles updates and what is the monthly cost?

Example calculation: the three-year total

The starting price tells only part of the story. Calculate what the website costs over three years. Here are two examples using our published prices.

The calculations cover the named services. Your own hosting or domain costs follow your current provider's prices. You do not have to buy hosting or maintenance from Kajo Template.

Example 1: an entrepreneur's single-page website

  • Landing Page: €300 total price
  • Hosting + domain: €9.90 × 36 months = €356.40
  • Three-year total: €656.40, approximately €18.23 per month

Example 2: a small business website with maintenance

  • Business Website: €650 total price
  • Hosting + maintenance: €30 × 36 months = €1,080
  • Three-year total: €1,730, approximately €48.06 per month

Make the same calculation for every quote. A lower upfront price with a high monthly fee or hourly maintenance may become more expensive within the first year.

What should you check in a quote?

A good quote makes the price and contents clear. The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority notes that before agreeing a contract, consumers must be told the total price including taxes or, if an exact price cannot be given, how it is determined. The authority also says service prices must be displayed on websites used for trading. Business customers do not always have the same protection, so request the details in writing.

Review the quote using this checklist:

  1. Total price: does the price include or exclude tax, and what is in the one-time fee?
  2. Page count and content: how many pages, and who supplies text and images?
  3. Revision rounds: how many rounds of changes are included?
  4. Running costs: what do hosting, domain and maintenance cost monthly or annually?
  5. Maintenance contents: are updates, backups and small content changes included in the monthly fee?
  6. Domain ownership: is the domain registered in your business's name?
  7. Schedule: when will the website launch, and what is needed from you beforehand?
  8. Additional work: how are changes outside the agreement charged?

Recording these details prevents later price surprises.

Our view: the price should be clear before work begins

We have built websites for self-employed entrepreneurs, small businesses and individuals, and one question recurs: what will this actually cost? An estimated number of hours, an extras price list and a vague maintenance fee make this difficult to tell.

We publish our build prices: a custom Landing Page costs €300 and a multi-page Business Website €650 as total prices. Hosting and maintenance are optional. Buy just the website and use your own provider.

To us, a good website is clear, works on every screen and is built for your business. A small business need not spend thousands to be online. It needs a site where customers immediately find the essentials.

View a free demo before buying. The first presentation is not the final product; it is revised around your wishes. Once you like it, we agree on the final content and optional services. Approve the finished website before payment and receive the files afterwards. Hosting and maintenance from us are optional.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a simple website cost?

A simple single-page website can cost a few hundred euros, with running costs of a few tens of euros per month or less. Our Landing Page costs €300 as a total price, and hosting with a domain costs €9.90 per month. Read more about simple websites.

What does a website cost per month?

Keeping a website online requires hosting and a domain, but they do not have to come from Kajo Template. Keep your current services or choose our Hosting + domain at €9.90/month or Hosting + maintenance at €30/month.

Why do website prices vary so much?

The price mainly depends on scope: page count, languages, content production and special features such as ecommerce or booking. A presentation page and an integrated online store are completely different purchases. Compare quotes with the same contents.

Whose name should the domain be registered in?

Register the domain in your business's or your own name so you keep it if you change providers. Check this before agreeing. Registrars must advise you on the domain's format and lawfulness.
